Tony Judt

Tony Judt died yesterday. His articles for the past 6 months or so in the New York Review of Books have been incredible. He has been suffering from Lou Gerhig's disease, paralyzed, in constant pain, and breathing through a machine. His editor's at the NYRB gave him free rein to write about whatever he wats, and he has been writing incredible essays about trains, Switzerland, the Kibbutz, Cambridge... everything really. It is clear that he was trying to get out everything he had to say in the limited time he had left, but this writing, instead of being rushed, was just so thoughtful and agenda free and gave me a sense of a really incredible person.
