a shout out!

I want to give a shout out to possibly the greatest use of the internets to date (in a non snarky way), which is the MIT Open Course Ware site. There are certainly other great uses of the web, but this one could allow anyone with a web connection (and perhaps access to an academic library (which can present a hurdle) to the content of much of an MIT education for the price of internet access. Whoo hoo!

I racked my brain to remember my myspace password so I could vote for a few friends' Glee auditions. In case you don't know what I'm talking about, Glee, the TV show about a high school show choir, is holding online auditions by allowing people to upload videos of themselves onto myspace, and letting myspace members (which was all of us like 6 years ago, admit it. Anyways, not having logged into myspace for years and years, I had a backlog of messages, but only read the most recent one, which was this:

Someone Else's Great Idea

This seems like such a good idea, why didn't someone (me) think of it before? In case you don't feel like clicking on the link, MacMillan publishers is offering digital textbooks which professors can personalize by not only reordering or deleting chapters, but adding their own materials. In the example given in the article, the digital version was one third the price of the online version.

I have one question: will professors' tweaked versions of textbooks be available to the public, or only to those in a class?

Actually, I have another question: what brilliant .com should I think up? What is so obvious and necessary? Online $20 an hour therapy sessions? A website that looks at your internet browsing history and introduces you to people with similar interests? Digital rubix cubes?
